Central Texas Education Network (CTEN) and it’s partner, Texas State Technical College (TSTC) Waco, provide connections to the world. Educational and business opportunities through the World Wide Web, video conferencing, data exchange, Intranet connections, distance learning, and other means of electronic communication await those who connect to the Internet via CTEN. Membership in CTEN is open to public and private school districts, public and private institutions of higher learning, public and private telehealth facilities, public and private libraries, regional and state consortia and governmental agencies.
CTEN connects directly into the Internet backbone. CTEN holds a position as a major Internet Service Provider in the Central Texas area. This is accomplished by the combined buying power of the members and through the partnership with TSTC Waco. This partnership has accomplished a major network upgrade and expansion in 2004, while maintaining the same rates since 2002. Bandwidth is monitored to maintain and provide for members’ needs. The primary focus of CTEN is to offer the best services available while maintaining reasonable costs for all members and partners. CTEN works with its members to plan for the future utilization of technology. CTEN maintains a telecommunications infrastructure that is compatible with regional, state, national, and international telecommunications networks.
CTEN seeks to empower its members by providing them with the knowledge to maintain and update their networks. Providing training and support for members is one means that enables CTEN to keep network costs affordable. CTEN also offers a menu of services that are customizable to meet member needs. These encompass most aspects of network administration, engineering, and project management.
